Last night I went to a play that some of my teachers were in. It was great, particularly the parts I understood.
On the way there I had to wade through a huge band, complete with horns, drums, the works - that was playing on the sidewalk, alongside a tiny parade of people in super shiny hardhats following a pickup, with much jubilation.
Down a callejon, about a block away I had to wade through another crowd that was doing some polkaish dance, (the Mexican form of polka?) to a live band complete with drums, accordian, the works - on the side walk.
This was all at 6:30 on a Thursday evening.
Then this morning on my way up the busy Paseo de la Presa, (the street my school is on,) I not only had to wait for many cars, buses and motorcycles before I crossed the street, I also had to wait for some guys on donkeys sharing the road as they led 4 or 5 more up the hill with empty sacks on their backs.
As I live my little life here, complete with high speed internet, (¡¡¡ in our house, no less!!) cell phones, newspapers, restaurants, routines, homework - it is good to be reminded every now and again that I am on an adventure.
